Hi, I’m Kate Robinson

MSW RSW SEP

Registered Social Worker Providing Counselling and Psychotherapy Services.

It’s so nice to meet you!

I’m Kate, MSW RSW SEP

I am a big believer in all things balance. I try to live a balanced lifestyle and feel my best when I am nourishing my body with healthy foods, moving my body, and creating periods in which I can slow down and rest.

I’ve always loved people's humanness and supporting people in understanding that what they are experiencing isn’t because there’s something ‘wrong with them’ but a normal response to lived experiences and the environment that surrounds us. I’m passionate about why we do what we do as humans, and it’s an approach I take with all my clients, giving them the space to feel seen and understood.

I am fortunate to have found a field of work that is so reflective of who I am and my interests. I love to learn and try to see the world through curious eyes!

Areas of Specialty & My Approach

An integrative approach using various therapeutic modalities:

  • Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) refers to a psychotherapy technique used to relieve psychological and physiological stress.

According to the theory behind the approach, traumatic and painful memories can cause trauma responses to occur in our body when they are not processed completely. Meaning when sights, sounds, words, or smells trigger those unprocessed memories, you can re-experience them and your body can become reactive to the trigger.

EMDR aims to reduce symptoms of trauma by changing how your memories are stored in your brain. In a nutshell, an EMDR therapist does this by leading you through a series of bilateral (side-to-side) eye movements as you recall traumatic or triggering experiences in small segments, until those memories no longer cause distress.

  • Somatic Experiencing is a body-oriented approach that theorizes that traumatic and overwhelming experiences can cause survival energy to become locked in our nervous system causing us to become stuck in fight, flight or freeze responses. SE uses body-oriented techniques to resolve these states so that we can go through life with more ease.

  • NARM is a cutting-edge model for addressing attachment, relational and developmental trauma, by working with the attachment patterns that cause life-long psychobiological symptoms and interpersonal difficulties.

“Maybe the journey isn’t so much about becoming anything. Maybe it’s about un-becoming everything that really isn’t you, so you can be who you were meant to be in the first place.”
